BEIJING -- China's quality watchdog announced on Friday that Great Wall Motors, one of the country's privately owned automakers, will recall 12,340 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) over faulty fuel pumps. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued a statement saying that the recall involves units of the Haval H6 model that were built from February 23 to 29 and from March 27 to May 9. The statement added that the defective fuel pump may cause engine problems or flameout. The automaker will replace the pumps free of charge. Great Wall Motors started as a producer of pickup trucks and later expanded its range to buses, SUVs and sedans. The company exported 83,000 vehicles last year, up by 65 % year-on-year.
