SUV-Jeepney Collision in Southern Philippines Leaves 6 Dead, 23 Injured

DAVAO CITY -- Local police reported that six people were killed while 23 others suffered injuries on Saturday morning when a vehicle collided with a passenger jeepney in Davao City. According to superintendent Marcial Magistrado, the regional spokesperson for southern Mindanao, the incident took place along a section of the Pan-Philippine highway located in Binugao village at about 6:30 a.m. Magistrado said that a sports utility vehicle (SUV) was en route to the town of Sta. Cruz when it collided into the oncoming jeepney which was loaded with revelers for Davao's Kadayawan festival. According to Magistrado, the driver of the SUV and one female jeepney passenger died on the spot while four others succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at city hospitals. The Davao city police has already launched an investigation to determine what caused the fatal accident.
