110 Asylum Seekers Rescued after Boat Sank off Australia's Coast

SYDNEY -- Australian Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare reported on Friday that 110 people were rescued after a boat carrying asylum seekers sank on Thursday approximately 120 nautical miles off the coast of Western Australia.
Clare added that the bodies of three passengers had been recovered and all 200 on board were males. According to the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), it was notified about the incident at around 3:00 p.m. (local time) on Thursday. The Australian government dispatched two Defence patrol boats and three merchant vessels have been helping BASARNAS, Indonesia's search and rescue authority, regarding the rescue operation.
