12 Students Killed in Albania Bus Crash

TIRANA -- Police said a bus transporting Albanian university students fell hundreds of feet into a ravine on Monday, leaving 12 people dead.
Rescue workers arrived at the site to free students who may have been trapped inside the bus, which had come to rest at the bottom of the ravine close to the city of Himara, approximately 86 miles south of the capital of Tirana.
Police said the driver of the bus carrying 49 female students from Aleksander Xhuvani University of Elbasan attempted to stop the bus but failed. The vehicle then veered off the road and plunged 492 feet into the ravine.
Aside from the fatalities, at least 25 students were severely injured.
