2 Civilians Dead, 1 Injured in Separate Attacks in Southern Thailand

BANGKOK -- Local media reported that two civilians were killed while another was injured on Friday morning in separate armed attacks in the southern province of Pattani. According to reports, Rosa Dorloh and his wife Waesoh were heading towards the Pattani hospital to visit their son. They were traveling on a motorcycle along the Pattani-Khok Pho road when a group of armed men on a pickup started firing at them using M16 assault rifles.
Bangkok Post online reported that Rosa had a bullet wound in the leg while his wife had two wounds in her torso. Nearby villagers rushed them to Pattani hospital, where Waesoh was declared dead on arrival. Authorities said the other attack occurred in Muang district and the lone fatality was identified as 66-year old Arong Jehmasae. Witnesses said he was heading towards the village mosque when armed men in the roadside forest opened fire using AK47 assault rifles. Arong was killed on the spot and had two gunshot wounds - one in the head and another in the torso.
