Hanoi -- A daily report published on the website of the Vietnamese Ministry of Health confirmed on Wednesday that two middle-aged women succumbed to the A/H1N1 flu, raising the country's death toll from the new disease to nine.
One of the victims is a 42-year-old woman from the province of Binh Phuoc. She was initially admitted to the provincial hospital on September 18 due to fever and cough. The woman passed away on September 19 as a result of a respiratory disease. Her sample tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus.
The other victim is a 46-year-old woman from the province of Dak Lak. The woman suffered from congenital heart disease. She was admitted to a district-level hospital with fever and dyspnea on September 16.
She was later transferred to the provincial hospital on September 17 because her condition continued to deteriorate. She then tested positive with A/H1N1 virus on Sepember 19. She was given Tamiflu but she passed away a day later.
On Tuesday, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health confirmed 167 new cases of the A/H1N1 flu, bringing the country's total number of flu cases to 7,362.
