Hanoi -- The Vietnamese Ministry of Health confirmed two more fatal cases of A/H1N1 flu, raising the country's death toll to 12.
The report on the Ministry's website said that one of the victims was a 30-year-old man in Ho Chi Minh City who was admitted to the provincial hospital on Monday due to fever, cough and dyspnea. The patient was paralyzed and was suffering from obesity. He eventually passed away on Thursday due to pneumonia and respiratory failure.
The second case involved a 23-year old woman in the province of Dak Lak. The woman was 36 weeks pregnant and was transported to a local hospital on September 20 due to fever. After three days of confinement, she was then transferred to a provincial general hospital because she was already manifesting the classic signs and symptoms of the A/H1N1 flu which include fever, coughing and dyspnea. She succumbed to the disease on Friday and her sample tested positive to the A/H1N1 virus.
The ministry also reported on Saturday 175 newly confirmed cases of the new flu virus, bringing the country's total number of flu patients to 8,014.
