Mudslides in the island of Sicily have killed 21 people until Saturday as reported by the head of Italian Civil Protection.
According to the statement, other 30 people are still unaccounted for from the disster which took place after heavy rains hit Sicily two days ago.
Head of Italian Civil Protection Guido Bertolaso stated that Messina, located along the strait between mainland Italy and Sicily, was one of the worst hit areas where mudslides where responsible for blocking roads.
Rescue teams were sent over to the affected areas and the Italian government declared state of emergency for these regions.
