ISLAMABAD, Pakistan -- Pakistani officials reported that hostile fire caused a Pakistani military transport helicopter to crash on Saturday, killing three people.
The crash took place in northwestern Pakistan, where the Pakistani army had launched a massive offensive against Taliban militants.
Senior Pakistani military officials reported that the incident took place at around sunset, adding that two pilots were also hurt in the crash. A military spokesman said that the incident is currently under investigation.
An intelligence source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the helicopter was shot down by enemy fire.
The helicopter was headed to the city of Peshawar from the district of Bajaur, where 25 people were killed by an alleged drone attack on Friday.
A local official stated that the missile attack killed the son-in-law and nephew of Mawlanna Faqir Mohammed, the Taliban leader in Bajaur.
