MOSCOW -- Russia's Health Ministry confirmed on Thursday that the country's death toll from the A/H1N1 virus had risen to five with the death of a 39-year-old woman in Siberian Krasnoyarsk region.

Deputy Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova reported that doctors failed to save the woman, who was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday when she was already in serious condition.

According to Gennady Onishchenko, Russia's chief sanitary official, more than 1,300 A/H1N1 flu cases have already been documented in the country.

Two A/H1N1 vaccines have so far been approved in Russia. Skvortsova added that the country will begin the initial vaccination campaign that will involve some 10 million people on November 9.
