Sofia, November 2, 2009 -- Authorities in a southeastern district of Bulgaria declared an epidemic of A/H1N1 on Monday as reported by local media.

The district of Burgas, site to the second largest Black Sea Port in Bulgaria, has reported a sick rate of 200 people for every 10,000. This alert will be standing until Friday closing all schools and cancelling all public events. Authorites stated that if the epidemic continues the alert would be extended.

The district of yambal aslo decided to declare an epidemic. Schools will be suspended to the flu until Monday as stated by local authorities.

The district of Gabrovo and the district of Varna decided to take the same measures as both have the largest number of infections to the pandemic virus.

Bulgaria has seen a quick spread of the influenza A/H1N1 virus. Shutting schools and banning public meetings have been measures taken by various towns accross the country.

Targovishte, in the northeastern region of Bulgaria, declared a an epidemic on Friday and the alert will last until November 6 there.

As to the date, two people have been reported dead from the virus.

The chief state health expert, Tencho Tenev, stated that at least 30 percent of the population (two million Bulgarians) are expected to become infected during the incoming months.
