MOSCOW -- Russia's consumer rights watchdog reported on Tuesday that the death toll of influenza A/H1N1 flu in the country has risen to 10.
The RIA Novosti news agency reported that out of the ten fatalities, eight were registered in the Trans-Baikal region, one was documented in Moscow and another in the Krasnoyarsk region.
According to the watchdog, the most serious threat posed by the with A/H1N1 flu has been monitored in Russia's Far East, Siberia and in the capital city of Moscow.
Russia is currently on its traditional flu season which further compounds the outbreak of of flu cases. So far, the total number of officially confirmed A/H1N1 flu cases in the country has climbed to almost 2,000.
The Russian government has planned to commence a mass vaccination campaign on November 9, primarily in the regions severely stricken by the outbreak of the new flu virus.
