KABUL -- A police officer said that four policemen were killed when a roadside bomb hit their vehicle in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar on Sunday.

The officer said the police van ran over a mine planted by insurgents south of Kandahar city at around 2:00 p.m.

There were also two passersby who suffered injuries in the attack.

The officer had put the blame on Taliban militants for planting the bomb, adding that the militants just want to disrupt security in the province by carrying out such attacks.
