SUZHOU -- Local maritime authorities in Jiangsu Province said that up to twelve people were feared dead after their ship capsized in China's longest river, the Yangtze, on Monday night.
A spokesman with the maritime rescue center of Zhangjiagang City confirmed that a ship identified as the "Pengxiang 9" registered in the city of Tianjin, capsized in the Zhangjiagang section of the Yangtze River at around 7:25 p.m., following a collision with the "Jintai 618".
The "Pengxiang 9" had 14 people on board, of whom only two were rescued on Monday evening.
Maritime officials enforced a traffic ban in the section of the river and searched for the missing through the night. However, as of 9 a.m. on Tuesday, none of the missing people have been found.
An investigation has already been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
