DUBAI -- The Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, was closed to the public due to technical problems, barely a month following its formal opening.
The observation deck on the 124th floor has been closed indefinitely due to unspecified technical issues. The deck had been open since the scyscraper was formally named on January 4.
The builders of the building, Emaar, issued a statement saying that technical problems involving the power supply are being dealt with by the main and sub-contractors.
Tickets to the observation deck had been sold out since the opening day. Emaar's statement also put the blame on the huge number of visitors for the decision to close the deck, without noting whether it was caused by a particular incident.
