PARIS -- Local police reported that an overnight fire killed at least six in northern France on Wednesday. Two others suffered severe injuries.

Local firefighters said the blaze broke out at around 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday in Tourcoing, close to the city of Lille. The flames quickly engulfed a building with 15 residents.

Firefighters at the site reported that they had found six bodies. However, the exact number of casualties could be higher as search operations are still underway.
