CROSS KEYS, Pennsylvania -- Authorities said that a police cruiser collided with a truck shortly after midnight at the intersection of routes 30 and 94 in Cross Keys. An Adams County police officer was seriously injured in the crash.

According to witnesses, the Eastern Adams Regional Police Department cruiser was traveling at high speed with its lights on as it pursued another vehicle on Route 30 when it rammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer. The force of the impact destroyed the front end of the cruiser and the police officer was trapped inside the mangled vehicle.

The truck was heading north on Route 94 and was in the intersection when it was hit by the cruiser. A representative of the trucking firm stated that their driver said his light was green as he was about to cross the intersection.

The officer, identified as Richard Philips, was airlifted to York Hospital. His condition has not been disclosed but witnesses said he wasn't responsive when he was flown from the crash site. The driver of the tractor trailer was unhurt.

Pennsylvania police are conducting a probe into the incident.
