Massive Fire Breaks Out Following Explosion in Nigeria Police Barracks

LAGOS -- Local police said that a massive fire broke out following a blast in the police barracks located in Zone II in Nigeria's biggest city Lagos on Friday.

Several fire engines rushed to the site to help contain the fire. So far, there were no immediate reports of casualties and the cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

According to security and rescue officials at the scene, the explosion was heard at around 11 .a.m.

An official who asked not to be identified said it could take a while to get the blaze under control because they could not approach the flame. He added that they received a call from top police officers in Lagos notifying them that their exhibit room was on fire.

Eyewitnesses said dense, black smoke could be seen rising about 10 km away from the site.
