MOSCOW -- Local emergencies authorities reported on Tuesday that an explosion jolted a power station located in the city of Kazan in Russia's Volga region, leaving about 80,000 people without power. The blast took place at the Leninskaya substation late Monday, damaged the three-storey facility and deprived roughly a third of the local population of power supply. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties. Meanwhile, the Itar-Tass news agency reported that on Tuesday, power supply of day-and-night social facilities were restored. Authorities suspect that the disruption may have been caused by some defective equipment. The power station supplies electricity to two residential areas of Kazan, the capital city of the republic of Tatarstan.
