CHRISTCHURCH -- Police said the death toll from the magnitude 6.3 quake that hit Christchurch on Tuesday has risen to 98, with 226 more reported missing. According to Police Superintendent Dave Cliff, authorities are struggling to identify victims because of the condition the bodies they recovered. Tuesday's earthquake toppled buildings, buckled streets and ripped off the facades of iconic cathedrals. Authorities had given up hope of rescuing at least 100 people who had been trapped in the Canterbury TV building. Police had stated that they were certain that no one in the building is alive. Authorities also expressed fears that the trapped victims in the Pyne Gould Corporation Building are also dead.
