Beijing -- The Chinese Ministry of Health said that the mainland confirmed 224 new cases of the A/H1N1 flu in the past 48 hours ending at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 3,981.
According to the ministry, among the newly confirmed cases, 199 were "imported cases" while the remaining 25 patients were infected on the Chinese mainland.
The ministry added that almost 3,400 of the infected patients have recovered and no fatal case has so far been reported in the mainland.
In a related report, vaccines for the A/H1N1 flu virus manufactured by two Chinese pharmaceutical companies namely Hualan Biological Engineering Inc. and Sinovac have already passed evaluation conducted by the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA). Both companies are hoping to get production licenses for their vaccines within the week, once given the go signal by the SFDA.
