A tornado has ripped through the Far North town of Kaitaia, causing widespread damage. ONE News understands 14 homes in the town have been seriously damaged, with roofing tiles ripped off. All the affected homes are in Pukepoto Road which has been cordoned off. A number of trees have also been brought down. Police say Kaitaia Hospital has also been seriously damaged with the boiler roof blown off, and a series of power outages. Emergency crews from Kerikeri, Wanganui, Paihia and Whangarei are helping mop up.
