The Hong Kong health department stated on Friday that the first case of H1N1virus resistant to Tamiflu antiviral drug was detected.

Besides this case, only two more cases of Tamiflu-resistant virus have been found, one in Denmark and one in Japan.

The case is isolated according to the statement given out by a spokesman to the health department. The infected patient is a 16-year-old girl from San Fransisco that arrived the Hong Kong International Airport on June 11.

Even though the virus shows resistance to the Tamiflu drug, tests showed that the virus is still vulnerable to the zanamivir drug,an inhaled medicine produced by GlaxoSmithKline.
