5 Killed, 3 Missing Due to Rain-Triggered Disasters in Northern China

TAIYUAN -- Local authorities said five people have been killed and three others remained missing after a rainstorm pounded a county in Shanxi province from Thursday to Friday. According to the county's publicity office, 13 townships in the county of Linxian in Luliang city have been affected by the heavy downpours. Five of those townships were badly affected, with precipitation level rising to 197 mm. The provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters is anticipating the biggest flood peak in the Yellow river since 1989. This has lead to the closure of the Hukou Waterfall to visitors.
Rainstorms also battered Hebei province on Thursday, killing one and leaving three others missing in Wu'an city.
