LASHKAR GAH -- The British Ministry of Defense revealed that two British service members were gunned down on Saturday by a man at a checkpoint in Helmand Province. The assailant was said to be donning the uniform of the Afghan Local Police. According to Major Laurence Roche, a spokesman for Task Force Helmand, the two fallen soldiers were members of the 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment. Similar militant attacks have been launched recently. Three British service members were killed at a check point in July when they were shot by a man donning an Afghan Police uniform. In May, two more British service members were gunned down by members of the Afghan police force at a patrol base located in Helmand province. In March, another two British soldiers were killed by a rogue Afghan trooper at the British headquarters in Lashkar Gar, the capital of Helmand Province. Since the UK started military operations in Afghanistan in 2001, the death toll among British troops has reached 430.
